Texas A&M vs. Texas Game 3 canceled, Aggies claim Lone Star Showdown
After securing 9-8 and 11-4 victories to take the series against No. 2 Texas, inclement weather prevented the No. 18 Texas A&M Aggies and No. 2 Texas Longhorns from competing in the series finale on Sunday.
While the storms passing through the area prevented baseball from being played and the sun from shining, it was anything but dark vibes from the Maroon and White after a massive series win over the Longhorns, who stood atop the SEC standings entering the weekend.
Texas A&M opened the series by coming out on top of a back-and-forth battle on Friday night, which was followed by one of the best all-around performances from Texas A&M so far this year in Game 2. The Aggie lineup continued to shine, as they recorded 11 runs on nine hits and 11 RBI, including two doubles, a triple and a home run against the Longhorns . Outfielder Caden Sorrell added to his SEC-leading home run total with a two-run blast that had Olsen Field covered with bubbles. Meanwhile, first baseman Gavin Grahovac maintained his status as a hitter that no pitcher wants to face right now, as he notched three RBI and his second game in a row with a triple.
The outstanding performance from the Aggie lineup and bullpen led to another upset victory and the claim of the Lone Star Showdown this weekend at Blue Bell Park.
Texas came to Bryan-College Station with the top ERA in the conference and failed to slow down the electric Texas A&M lineup. With guys like Grahovac, Sorrell and Partida having outstanding approaches at the plate, the Aggies could be a major contender for the league title and are putting themselves in position to host postseason baseball at Olsen Field.
Next up, Texas A&M hosts Houston for a midweek home matchup, before traveling to Alex Box Stadium for a series against the LSU Tigers beginning Friday. Game time against the Cougars is slated for 6 p.m. CT on Tuesday and will be broadcast live on SEC Network+.
