Three Hurricanes earn All-ACC honors after strong regular season

Three Miami Hurricanes basketball standouts earned ACC honors on Monday evening.

Forward Malik Reneau and guard Tre Donaldson were named to the All-ACC first and second teams, respectively. Center Ernest Udeh Jr. was named to the conference’s All-Defensive team.

Reneau, a senior transfer from Indiana, paced the Hurricanes in the regular season with 19 points per game on 55.9 percent shooting. He also averaged 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Reneau led UM in scoring in 17 of Miami’s 31 games. Reneau was also fifth in the voting for ACC Most Improved Player.

Donaldson, a senior guard who transferred from Michigan was second on the team with 16.8 points per game on 46.2 percent shooting. He had 5.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game, and he averaged 1.3 steals per game.

Udeh, a senior center who arrived from TCU, was a force in the front court. He had 1.4 blocks per game and was the team’s top rebounder, averaging 9.4 per game. Udeh led UM in rebounds in 18 of its 31 games. Udeh also averaged 7.1 points. Udeh finished sixth in the voting for the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Other Hurricanes were considered for conference awards.

Miami coach Jai Lucas, who rebuilt the team after taking over last year and won 24 games in his first season, was second in the ACC Coach of the Year voting. He received 19 votes, trailing only the winner, Duke coach Jon Scheyer, who received 51.

Additionally, guard Tru Washington finished third in the voting for Sixth Man of the Year.
