Colorado football wraps up spring camp with its annual spring game Saturday afternoon, a day that gives fans and media members a closer look at the 2026 team.
Deion Sanders and his recruiting staff brought in over 40 new transfers and revamped his coaching staff, making spring football an important period for building team cohesion.
There have been several standouts this spring, including Notre Dame transfer cornerback Cree Thomas , but who are the players the Buffaloes Wire staff is looking forward to seeing in a game-like setting?
Here are our picks for the Buffs we are most excited to see in Colorado 's spring game.
RB Jaquail Smith
Picked by:Jack Freeman
Bringing in Jaquail Smith was one of my favorite moves the Buffs made in the transfer portal this offseason. The young back was a highlight machine at Sacramento State last year, rushing for 511 yards on 76 carries. Smith faces an uphill challenge in an experienced running back room; he's got the raw talent to become a playmaker in the Big 12. This spring game will not only give him a chance to prove he's capable of the same stardom, but also give fans a glimpse of his promise before the season begins. - Jack Freeman
DL Santana Hopper
Picked by:Xavier Michnewicz
I am most looking forward to seeing Santana Hopper in action. With what sounds like will be a revamped run game, seeing how the Buffaloes' run defense will fare against Brennan Marion's new look offensive attack. And since Hopper was more of a pass rusher at Tulane, it will be interesting to see how he is used in the run game. -Xavier Michnewicz
LB Gideon Lampron
Picked by:Charlie Strella
Defensive play is sometimes hard to evaluate in a scrimmage setting, but linebacker is one position where plays can be made even without full tackles. Lampron is an athletic linebacker with speed, two traits that were severely lacking on last season's roster. Lampron is one of three linebackers who likely start come the fall, but he is the one I am circling for Saturday.
