As the Detroit Tigers prepare to take on the Atlanta Braves in their second of three showdowns, the team’s depth took a hit with not one but two players landing on IL.
Taking to social media to break down their latest round of moves, the Tigers PR revealed that both Casey Mize and Javier Báez are heading to short-term IL , with a pair of players recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take their spots on the roster.
“The Tigers today placed RHP Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list with a right adductor strain and placed INF Javier Báez on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain,” the Tigers PR wrote. “LHP Enmanuel DeJesus and INF Jace Jung have been recalled from Triple-A Toledo.”
Most recently taking the mound on April 28 against the Braves, Mize only lasted 2.1 innings, allowing three hits and two runs over 34 pitches before being pulled with an at-the-time dubbed lower-body injury. Now placed on 15-day IL, Mize won’t be eligible to return until mid-May, either during the team’s series against the New York Mets or the Toronto Blue Jays .
Báez’s April is also over after a disappointing start to the 2026 MLB season, recording just 20 hits and two home runs over 82 plate appearances. With 10 days off to get his ankle sprain back on track , who knows? Maybe Báez will return to his usual form in May, pushing for a second-straight All-Star appearance in as many seasons in a Tigers uniform as Detroit pushes for their third-straight playoff berth.
