Does the Major League Baseball season actually start until Javier Baez makes a bone-headed play? It usually doesn't take very long for it to happen. In Game 26 of the season, Baez is already getting clowned on social media for his base-running gaffe, leading to a double play.
The Detroit Tigers are at home in the series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers . Tarik Skubal toed the slab for the Tigers and shoved once again at home in front of his home fans. His day is not even done either, as the southpaw is just at 72 pitches through six innings of work. The Tigers currently own a 3-1 lead in the 7th inning (at the time of publishing).
Riley Greene smashed a two-run homer in the first inning, and then Dillon Dingler grounded into a fielder's choice for a run in the 6th inning. The only run for the Brew Crew came from a double from Gary Sanchez .
The 5th inning is where Baez almost screwed over the Tigers in this game.
This is leading to a lot of roasting on social media.
Baez is having himself a decent hitting season at 33-years-old. He's smashed one home run this season with five RBIs. He entered this game with a .277 average and .704 OPS. If he can produce at this level for the entire season, then he will remain a starter and a big part of what the Tigers showcase in 2026. Zach McKinstry remains on the IL , so Baez will remain at shortstop and Kevin McGonigle at third base.
