The Detroit Tigers placed Riley Greene on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain in early-mid August. With the club set to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, the organization received an inspiring injury update regarding Greene's recovery.

Reports indicate that the 25-year-old left fielder will begin his rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com. He will serve as a designated hitter on Saturday before eventually transitioning to the outfield.
"Riley Greene begins a rehab assignment for Triple-A Toledo," Beck reported. "He'll DH tonight, then hopefully play LF tomorrow. Mud Hens are in St. Paul this weekend. Tigers begin series at Minnesota on Monday."

The return of the fifth-year pro will be a nice upgrade in the outfield for Detroit. Although the Tigers have struggled throughout this season and playoff hopes are dwindling, Greene can at least provide an uptick in offensive production for the final stretch of the regular season.

In 422 at-bats so far this season, Greene has totaled 115 hits, 16 home runs, and 54 RBIs, giving him a .273 batting average and .366 OBP. He's also a consistent defender, as Riley Greene owns a .995 fielding percentage and has recorded just one error this year. His efforts in the 2026 campaign earned him the third All-Star nod of his career.
While Greene continues progressing toward a return to the lineup, the Tigers will rely on Javier Baez in left field, Max Clark in center, and Ben Malgeri at right. Those three will take up the bottom of the order for Saturday's contest against the Dodgers.
