In a move that sends shockwaves through the college sports world, tight end Alex Bauman is officially heading to Ann Arbor. A Washtenaw County judge granted Bauman a temporary injunction against the NCAA, clearing the runway for the former Tulane and Miami pass catcher to enroll at Michigan and suit up for a fifth season.
The decision marks a massive victory for Bauman, who spent months challenging eligibility restrictions. After entering his name into legal proceedings following a brief push toward the professional ranks, the tight end sought relief under emerging NCAA framework shifts and state court interventions. With the temporary injunction now active, the NCAA is legally restrained from barring his immediate participation, paving a direct path for him to join the Wolverines.

Bauman brings a wealth of high level big time college experience to the Michigan offense. Standing at 6-5 and 250 pounds, the New Jersey native built a strong reputation as a touchdown weapon during his three seasons at Tulane. Across 39 games with the Green Wave, he hauled in 63 receptions for 610 yards and 13 touchdowns, including a dramatic game winning score in the Cotton Bowl.
His productive run in New Orleans earned him a high profile portal transfer to Miami, where he carved out a primary role in the Hurricanes passing game. Bauman appeared in all 16 games for Miami, making 11 starts while catching 18 passes and providing reliable inline blocking throughout the season. Though his final game in Coral Gables featured a brutal special teams breakdown in the national postseason, his body of work speaks for itself. Bauman is a proven, physical playmaker who excels in traffic and knows how to cash in near the goal line.
For Michigan, the addition could not come at a better time. The Wolverines offense places heavy demands on its tight ends, asking them to act as physical edge blockers in the run game while serving as safety valves in the middle of the field. Bauman's veteran presence instantly upgrades the depth chart, giving head coach Kyle Whittingham a durable, dual threat options near the red zone.
His arrival also relieves pressure on younger players on the roster, allowing the coaching staff to mix up personnel packages without losing a beat in multi-tight end sets. Bauman brings an experienced veteran eye to the locker room, having logged snaps in major bowl games, conference title matchups, and national spotlight games.
