One offseason addition for the Cleveland Browns has gone under the radar a bit. Todd Monken opened up about a player he's very familiar with that the Browns added.
The Cleveland Browns overhauled their wide receiver room this offseason, adding first-round pick KC Concepcion and second-round pick Denzel Boston to a younger , more dynamic roster than they had a year ago. Those two rookies have dominated the conversation surrounding Cleveland's revamped receiving corps heading into the 2026 season. But the Browns made another addition that deserves attention, and it's one with a direct connection to offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
Former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Tylan Wallace signed with the Browns as a free agent this offseason after spending five years in Baltimore from 2021 through 2025. While Wallace has never been a player to put up big receiving numbers, his value as a multi-dimensional contributor across the receiving game, special teams, and the return game makes him an underrated piece for Cleveland this season.
Monken opened up about the kind of player Wallace is and what he can be for the Browns in 2026 this week. Having coached Wallace during his time with the Ravens, Monken knows exactly what he's getting.
"I say this all the time about Tylan (Wallace) is that whatever you ask him to do, he's going to do it. He's a diligent worker," Monken stated recently. "He doesn't really get enough credit sometimes; it doesn't flash in shorts, what he gives you. But I can tell you, in '23 against the ( Los Angeles ) Rams in overtime, he returned a punt that won us the game."
Against the ( Cincinnati ) Bengals the next year, we're down a touchdown, we threw just a quick out, he breaks three tackles and scores from 80 yards out. I mean, you can scroll down NFL Films and try to find a punt return for 60-yards and a quick out that goes for 80. He's just a guy that can plug and play a lot of positions and has been an upper-tier special teams player. He's really valuable."
That kind of endorsement from the head coach who has seen Wallace up close for years carries weight. The plays Monken referenced aren't the type that show up on a stat sheet every week, but they're the kind that can swing outcomes in critical moments a couple times a season.
Special teams is an area the Browns want to improve this season, and Wallace is going to add value there. He has one punt return touchdown in his career and has logged time as both a kick and punt returner. He's also a player who can serve as a gunner on punt coverage, giving Cleveland versatility in a phase of the game that often gets overlooked.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound, 27-year-old wide receiver is looking at being the fifth receiver at best in what is a more complete receiving room for Cleveland this season. That's a perfect fit for the role he could fill. Wallace isn't going to be a player who posts numbers every game, but he could come up in crucial moments for the Browns in 2026.
He's a player the team quietly added this offseason who shouldn't be forgotten, and he's a guy who should make the roster. Don't sleep on what Wallace can bring to this Cleveland team.
