- Tom Brady explains what made Bill Belichick ‘the best coach to ever coach in the NFL’
Bill Belichick's NFL success speaks for itself.
The former Patriots coach won eight total Super Bowls — two as the New York Giants defensive coordinator and six with New England as its coach — and formed a historic duo with Tom Brady for two decades.

"He's the best coach to ever coach in the NFL," Brady said during an appearance on the "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast . "He's one of the greatest motivators. There's so many things that are just uncanny about his coaching style, that he had such high expectations for us, and he never let off the gas."
Belichick knew how to get the most out of his players, and it started before training camp began every season. Accountability was important to Belichick in order to play " The Patriot Way " — a formula that dominated the NFL for two decades.
"It didn't matter if it was March," Brady said . "March was really important because March led to April, and April was really important because it led to May, and so forth, all the way up to the start of the season, all the way up to the final games of the season to prepare us for the playoffs. And then if we were fortunate enough to make it to the last game, we were so prepared because every day was important."
Together, Brady and Belichick amassed an impressive 249-75 regular-season record, 17 AFC East titles and six Super Bowl championships. They're the only quarterback-coach duo to win six titles together.

The relationship came to an end in 2020 when Brady departed the Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . He immediately won his seventh Super Bowl , while Belichick struggled to find consistency in the post-Brady era.
The Patriots fired Belichick after the 2023 season . He was shut out of the following coaching cycle and landed with UNC on a five-year deal to be the Tar Heels' next coach.
There hasn't been another coach-quarterback duo like Brady and Belichick. Chuck Knoll won four with Terry Bradshaw when he was quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers , but that's as close any one has come. Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have won three together with the Kansas City Chiefs , and Bill Walsh and Joe Montana also won three together with the San Francisco 49ers .
