- Tom Izzo provides injury update on forward Cam Ward
Michigan State basketball held its first team practice of the season on Tuesday, with head coach Tom Izzo providing an injury update on one of his key players.
Izzo provided an update on starting forward Cam Ward's injury status, stating he recently suffered a "slight sprained ankle" according to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press. Izzo noted that is the only current injury issue the Spartans are dealing with at this time.

Ward was spotted a few weeks ago at the Michigan State football game wearing a walking boot , which had some fans concerned on his status ahead of the season. The injury, though, doesn't appear to be serious enough to hold him out of any true game action coming up in November.
Ward was a key bench player for the Spartans last season and is expected to step into a starting role this upcoming season. Last year, he appeared in 34 games, where he averaged 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds across just over 15 minutes per game.
Any positive injury news is important for the Spartans, who have aspirations of contending for a national championship this season. This is a positive update out of the uncertainly we saw a few weeks ago, and should lower concern for Ward missing any time this upcoming season.
