The San Francisco Giants earned victories in their first two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in their three-game series. The Dodgers were able to bounce back and win 3-0 on Thursday, however. After the game, Giants manager Tony Vitello commented on the defeat and Logan Webb ’s Thursday start, via KNBR.
“To hold their entire lineup down for three straight days is just not something you go to Vegas and roll the dice on,” Vitello said. “To me, he (Webb) had a strong outing today. I know there’s a couple pitches he’d like to take away, maybe you take a walk away… But otherwise he was really good for us.”
Webb is one of the best starting pitchers in baseball. He has endured an up and down performance to begin the new campaign, however. On Thursday, Webb turned in seven innings of three-run baseball while striking out five. He gave the Giants an opportunity, but the offense failed to find a rhythm in the defeat.
Webb now holds a 4.86 ERA in six starts this season. He has been better than his ERA indicates, though. Webb’s first outing of the season saw him allow six earned runs. Since that start, Webb has allowed four runs once and three or less runs in every other start.
Webb wants to be better . He surely will improve his ERA as he makes more starts. The Giants hurler has been one of the most reliable starters in the game in recent years.
Overall, San Francisco is now 11-14 and in fourth place in the National League West. Nevertheless, winning two out of three games against the Dodgers is an impressive feat.
