- Top 15 Kentucky sports moments of 2025-26: No 7 A Final Four comeback
The Kentucky Wildcats various sports teams manage to create a number of exciting moments every year, and 2025-26 was no different. We're counting down the 15 biggest highlights from the past year, and No. 7 comes to us from the women's volleyball team, who almost delivered a national championship to Lexington.
After losing to Pitt in September, the Wildcats rattled off 26 straight wins, taking them to the Final Four. There, they squared off against the Wisconsin Badgers , and it would turn out to be a match that would take everything Kentucky had.
Wisconsin dominated the opening set, taking it 25-12. Service errors, poor passes, and missed hits plagued the Cats, and it was ugly early. Kentucky bounced back quickly, though, and took the second set 25-22. Set three was controlled by the Badgers once again, giving them a 2-1 match lead.
The fourth set was as dramatic as any all season. Kentucky jumped out early, but Wisconsin overtook them and led 12-11. Then the Wildcats roared into the lead, and had set point at 24-21, but couldn't hold on, and the Badgers tied it at 24. Then, two huge blocks forced errors, and Kentucky won a hard-fought set 26-24. In the deciding fifth set, Kentucky jumped out to an early lead, and held on to win it 15-13, giving them the match.
The victory sent the Wildcats on to the championship match against Texas A&M , which ended in a disappointing loss. However, the win over Wisconsin was one of the most exciting matches of the year, and one of two entries on this list for the volleyball team. We'll get to the other one a little higher on the list.
