The game will be particularly special for Oliver Glasner as he heads back to Selhurst Park just a few months on from leaving at the end of his contract.
Forest sit 13th in the top flight as it stands after picking up just one win from their opening five matches.
Glasner will be dealing with several of his stars returning to the East Midlands this week after differing fortunes for their respective countries.

Ndoye is in some of the best form of his career after several goal returns while on international duty for Switzerland.
The 25-year-old registered two goals and three assists in four Nations League outings over the break to prove his quality to Glasner.
Austrian midfielder Xaver Schlager is another who has impressed for his country, having played four full 90s in their unbeaten start to the new Nations League campaign.
The summer signing has been a regular under Glasner and barely put a foot wrong for his country, creating three chances against Israel and a game-high two chances in their 1-1 draw with Kosovo on Sunday.

Young centre-back Jair Cunha rounds off the winners from the Reds squad after making his senior Brazil debut and first start in successive games against Australia.
His impressive form under Glasner and introduction to Carlo Ancelotti's squad should give him all the confidence needed to help drag Forest up the table in the coming months.

The 26-year-old was one of just five outfield players who failed to start any of England's four NL fixtures, with 45 minutes accrued from the bench.
He seems to have been sent a message by Tuchel, which could be that he needs to perform for a bigger club to receive regular call-ups and minutes going forward.
Neco Williams comes next, as despite being a regular for Wales, he was part of a side that lost three of their opening four Nations League fixtures.
The 25-year-old will be glad of the game time for his country, but the loss of form might affect his club performances going forward.
Chris Wood travelled across the world to play just twice for New Zealand over the break in a draw against Panama and a loss to Japan.

The veteran striker may well have been better off staying at Forest to build his lacking fitness, as he now looks even less likely to break into the starting eleven over Liam Delap or Igor Jesus, who have each had several weeks to work closely with Glasner on the training pitch.
