BEREA ― The Browns took strides forward on both offense and defense in their Week 2 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . They'll need to take even more steps in a positive direction for them to turn that into a win streak when they open the home schedule against the Carolina Panthers .
Offensive coordinator Travis Switzer, defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg and special team Byron Storer will hold their weekly media availability on Sept. 24 to discuss the improvements made from Week 1 to Week 2. They'll also address the challenges faced this week against a Panthers team that's also 1-1.

Special teams coordinator Byron Storer talked about kicker Andre Szmyt winning the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

"Oh, it felt great," Storer said. "That's cool for Dre (Andre Smyzt). He's very deserving of the award, in my opinion, and it's a lot of hard work and dedication that he's put in, so I'm really excited for him. And he also let me know the last time he got AFC Player of the Week was against the Packers , so he rubbed it in a little bit, too."
Mike Rutenberg on Jared Verse 's lack of sacks through 2 games
06:00 PM ET, September 24 2026, Chris Easterling
Defensive end Jared Verse has yet to record a sack through two games. Defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg has no concerns.

"I mean, I'm really excited about the way he's approaching the game," Rutenberg said. "He's trying his butt off. He's doing a lot of really good things. On the play at the end of the game where the ball went up and we had the huge play in the back of the end zone, towards the end of the game, credit to Jared Verse chasing Baker (Mayfield) from the backside. So, Jared's production has been good. I'm excited for him, and I know it will continue to get better. And he's working really hard at it."
Mike Rutenberg on Browns late defensive stand

Defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg was asked about the two-minute stand by his unit against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .

"Super fired up for them," Rutenberg said. "Guys put in the work, coaches put in the work and we try and do that every week. And it's not guaranteed that you're going to be rewarded with a victory, but at least guarantees you a chance. And the players finished after a crazy rain delay. They handled that really well, the coaches handled that well, and we're able to do enough to win. And credit to the offense for scoring the touchdown, and then the defense for the finish. It was really cool for those guys."
Nick Chubb to sign one-day contract to retire as Cleveland Brown
03:31 PM ET, September 24 2026, Chris Easterling
Nick Chubb officially announced his retirement from the NFL back in August. However, he's returning to Berea Sept. 25 to sign a one-day contract with the Browns in order to retire with the team that drafted him, Browns managing partner JW Johnson III said on the team's in-house radio show Cleveland Browns Daily.

"Nick epitomizes what it means to be a Brown," Johnson said. "I've been honored to be able to watch him practice and I remember at times looking at guys like, 'God, we get to watch greatness every day. I hated it when Nick left and sometimes that's the business of football unfortunate. I'm glad he got an opportunity to go to Houston and have some winning football. But we are honored and privileged to have Nick come back tomorrow. He's going to officially retire as a Cleveland Brown.
"So he'll be tomorrow, we'll have a little press conference, he'll be at practice and then he will be at the game and we will definitely honor Nick and I know our fans will be fired up and chanting 'Chubb.' I'm excited to have Nick back and he is forever a Brown and rightfully where he needs to be is here in Berea and as a Brown and hopefully one day down in Canton. I'm just thrilled for Nick and proud of him and I'm happy to call him a friend."
Chubb announced his retirement on Instagram on Aug. 21. He spent the 2025 season with the Houston Texans , with whom he'd signed as a free agent in June of that year.
The former 2018 second-round pick (No. 35 overall) retires No. 3 on the Browns' all-time rushing list with 6,843 yards in 85 career games. The only two in front of him are face-of-the-franchise Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly.

Chubb retires with 7.349 rushing yards on 1,462 attempts in exactly 100 career games, with 54 rushing touchdown. He rushed for 506 yards on 122 carries with three touchdowns in 15 games in his one season in Houston.
The four-time Pro Bowler wasn't just top three in the Browns record books in career rushing yards. His 30 100-yard rushing games are second most all-time, and his 51 career rushing touchdowns are third most.
Chubb's average of 5.0 yards is 11th-highest all-time in NFL history. At the time of his departure from Cleveland, his rushing total was the fourth highest in the NFL since 2018, behind Derrick Henry (10,189), Saquon Barkley (7,216) and Josh Jacobs (6,874).

The Browns' best option to run the ball over the first two weeks has been quarterback Deshaun Watson. Even if/when the rest of the running game improves, they're going to need him to continue to provide that part of his game.

"If he can convert one or two third downs a game, over the course of a season, that's a big deal," offensive coordinator Travis Switzer said.
