The Boston Red Sox are 4-9 entering Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals . It's been an incredibly slow start for the entire team to begin the 2026 campaign. On Saturday, Trevor Story shared how he thinks the club can turn things around.
While talking with MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the 33-year-old shortstop claims that he and his teammates simply need to have more successful at-bats . Essentially, he wants to see Boston improve the OBP as a team and give the offense a chance to get the ball rolling.
"I think everyone can kind of look in the mirror and know they need to do better," said Story. "I think that's what we've done. We just gotta play more complete baseball. Offensively, we need to string together better at-bats. We're not necessarily a team that's gonna outslug people… But finding a way to manufacture runs and have better at-bats."
The Red Sox are tied 29th in home runs, with just nine as a team so far this season. Considering Trevor Story admitted the team doesn't have a ton of power on the roster right now, he still believes Boston can focus on improving in other areas, like generating walks, hitting down the gap, and improving the baserunning.
Luckily for the Red Sox , it's a long season ahead. They are also not the only team struggling at the plate to begin the campaign. Once the weather starts warming up, so should the offense in Boston, as well as the rest of the league.
Trevor Story, who is an 11-year veteran, entered Saturday's game against the Cardinals with a .140 batting average and .136 OBP. While he's leading the AL in at-bats with 57, Story has only recorded eight hits, which have generated one home run and nine RBIs.
