Charlotte hasn't had a winning season since 2019, and was 1-17 – the one win came over Monmouth from the FCS – before pulling off a 38-31 win at Temple to finally break the gloom under head coach Tim Albin. That was nice, but beating the defending American champ would be better.
The Green Wave haven't been consistent in the reload under new head coach Will Hall, alternating win-loss-win-loss from the start, and losing 42-19 to UTSA last week. It's still in the hunt to defend its crown, but it can't whiff on Friday night.
