The Minnesota Twins have won seven of their last ten games. Byron Buxton has been hitting well during that streak, playing in the last eight games. Buxton missed four games due to injury, but is now back in the lineup.
Due to injuries, Buxton, who is normally patrolling center field, has been limited to DH work , and that may be the continued plan, according to Dan Hayes of The Athletic.
"It's probably me being more cautious than (Buxton) being more cautious," Twins manager Derek Shelton said. "In this case right now, I just feel it's better for him to make sure he's in our lineup. … Right now, in my mind, it's best for him to DH."
Buxton has been nursing two injuries. He has a sore right hip flexor, but his right shoulder is damaged as well. Since returning to the lineup as the DH, he is hitting .250 with two home runs and four RBIs in seven games.
"I feel better," Buxton said. "Obviously, I want to be playing outfield and separate my mind a little bit more. Just to be able to play and still be able to do the things I want to do, gotta take it. That's the positive side of what we're working with. Sooner or later it will be good."
The Twins need Buxton in the lineup. He leads the team with 51 hits this year, while hitting .259. He also leads the team with 17 home runs, while having 27 RBIs. Further, he has scored 38 times this year.
The Twins are 27-29 on the season, which places them in third place in the AL Central. They are five games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the division. The Twins finish a four-game series with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday afternoon.
