- Twins promote another first-round pick, Aaron Sabato
The Twins on Monday promoted another of their first-round draft picks, selecting the contract of first baseman Aaron Sabato a day after he finished a big season with Triple-A St. Paul.
The 27th overall pick in the 2020 draft, Sabato, 27, hit .273 with 25 home runs, 75 runs batted in and 66 runs scored in 113 games for the Saints. His 29 doubles set the team's single-season record since it became the Twins' top minor league team in 2021.
Sabato was called up prior to Monday's 8:45 p.m. first pitch at San Francisco and joins a host of former teammates who were first-round draft picks for Minnesota , including Byron Buxton , Kaelen Culpepper, Brooks Lee , Royce Lewis and Walker Jenkins.
Slowed early in his professional career by two hand injuries, Sabato altered his training approach after suggestions by the organization's development team and is coming off his two best pro seasons.
"I'm definitely having fun," Sabato said during an interview with the Pioneer Press in August. "I think buying into what I want to do daily, instead of hoping that I feel good, and then hope I can translate it. The Twins have been really awesome about that, especially early this year. I think buying into that process has really led to the numbers on the field."
To make room on the active and 40-man rosters, the Twins designated catcher Alex Jackson for release or assignment. He hit .304 with four doubles, one home run and 12 runs scored in 33 games with the big league club this season.
The Twins play three in San Francisco before concluding their season with a weekend series against Texas at Target Field.
