- Twins reliever Jeff Hoffman undergoes elbow surgery
The day before the 2026 season came to a close, reliever Jeff Hoffman landed on the injured list with what he described as forearm soreness. The veteran reliever wasn't recovering as fast as he would have liked and with the Twins out of contention, he felt it best to shut it down rather than try to push through.
Over the course of that next month, the source of that pain was revealed and on Tuesday, he underwent right elbow arthroscopic surgery in Birmingham, Alabama, with Dr. Jeffrey Dugas, who removed a bone chip and performed a debridement procedure.
The Twins say they expect Hoffman to begin building up with a throwing program in eight weeks and they anticipate him being ready for the start of the 2027 season.
Hoffman, 33, came to the Twins in a deadline day trade in July and pitched 18 innings with Minnesota, logging a 2.50 ERA with 27 strikeouts in than span while fanning 35% of hitters faced. With one year remaining on the three-year, $33-million deal he initially signed with the Blue Jays, Hoffman is expected to be an important piece of the Twins' bullpen plans in 2027.
