Last Sunday brought the San Francisco 49ers their first loss of the 2026 NFL season when they went down in a 29-20 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons. During that game, they were severely short-handed at the wide receiver position, yet they still had a real shot at victory, especially when they took a 14-3 lead early in the second quarter.
Star off-ball linebacker Dre Greenlaw helped lead the way with 12 total tackles (four solo). On offense, running back Jordan James got his first carry since Week 1 and turned it into a six-yard carry.
Unfortunately, both men were fined by the NFL on Saturday for actions they performed during last Sunday's contest.
How much were Greenlaw and James fined?
Greenlaw, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, was fined $12,537 for striking an opponent in Week 7, which was deemed unnecessary roughness. James, meanwhile, was hit with a $6,194 fine for unnecessary roughness involving the use of his helmet.
The action Greenlaw performed that resulted in this fine occurred when he looked to perform a "peanut punch" to knock the football away from Falcons wide receiver Drake London. Instead, he hit London in the helmet.
Greenlaw, of course, had previously been disciplined by the league this season. In Week 4, he taunted Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton, whom he played for last season, and was fined nearly $12,000 as a result. The following week, he head-butted the Seattle Seahawks' Ernest Jones IV and was ejected from that game. He was then suspended for the Niners' Week 6 win over the Washington Commanders.
Greenlaw is having a tremendous season for San Francisco with 49 total tackles (22 solo) through six games. After tearing his Achilles during Super Bowl LVIII, he looks like the same player he was prior to that injury, and as was the case before he tore his Achilles, he and Niners middle linebacker Fred Warner constitute one of football's most fearsome linebacker duos.
San Francisco is off this week and will host the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 8.
