There is a sense of excitement surrounding Manchester City ahead of the 2026-27 season. Enzo Maresca has taken charge as City's manager and with Elliot Anderson already signed by City from Nottingham Forest and the promise of more signings to come, there is a fresh feeling to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. Recently, two City players have shared their excitement of playing under Enzo Maresca, which further adds to the excitement surrounding Manchester City heading into a new season.
Two Manchester City players have spoken on how they are looking forward to working with Enzo Maresca. First, in an interview with ESPN Brasil , young defender Vitor Reis shared that he has big expectations playing under Maresca and he also praised the Italian manager. Vitor Reis explained: " Maresca is a great coach who has a lot of football knowledge. My expectations for working with him are very high. "
Fresh off signing a contract extension with Manchester City that runs until 2030, Phil Foden went into great detail about why he is looking forward to working with Enzo Maresca. Foden looked back fondly on the time that Maresca was a City assistant when they won the treble during the 2022-23 season. Foden also praised Maresca's ability to work with players individually. The England international explained in an interview with mancity.com : " So excited. Obviously, I've had Enzo before. When we had him in the Treble season, he was brilliant. "
" His attention to detail, the small things that make a big difference, and even training with him at the moment, you can tell how good of a coach he is. I'm really excited to play under him and see where it goes. He's so nice. He's down to earth. He's someone that you can go to and talk about anything to him, and he would help you out. "
" Even if you want to work on things to get better, he'll do one-on-one sessions with you after training. And that's something he did with me as well when he was here. I did small finishing drills with him and things like that, and he really grew my game. "
The sense of anticipation, and perhaps a touch of trepidation, surrounding Manchester City will continue to grow as the 2026-27 season edges closer. It will be fascinating to see how Enzo Maresca fares as City manager, and what he brings to the table as a manager. What is clear already is that Phil Foden and Vitor Reis are excited for what lies ahead.
Clearly, based on Phil Foden's comments, a host of Manchester City's key players are familiar with what Enzo Maresca brings to the table. The remaining Manchester City players from their treble-winning season have first-hand experience of Maresca's methods. Bringing it back around to Vitor Reis' comments, City's young players should greatly benefit from Enzo Maresca's one-on-one coaching. Vitor Reis is one such player but their are plenty more young gems who could accelerate their development under Maresca.
The excitement is growing as the Enzo Maresca era begins to take shape at Manchester City. Phil Foden and Vitor Reis are looking forward to working with the Italian manager, and it is exciting to ponder what lies ahead once Maresca's methods are established at the club.
