- Tyrese Haliburton throws out first pitch at Wrigley Field
Tyrese Haliburton finally got to throw the first pitch he's been waiting for, and the Pacers All-Star point guard did get it over the plate from the mound even if it was a little high.
Haliburton wore a Cubs jersey with his last name and his number zero on his back as he took the Wrigley Field mound prior to Chicago's game against National League Central rival Milwaukee. His pitch to Clark the Cub forced the Cubs mascot to stand up to catch it, but Haliburton did get it there on the fly, which is worth noting given that Haliburton doesn't have much in the way of baseball experience. He did serve as a captain in the Pacers Foundation Charity Softball Classic last week and went 4-for-5 in the plate in that game but acknowledged he hadn't touched a bat for years prior to that event.

Thursday night's first pitch is the end of an extended saga for Haliburton. A native of Oshkosh, Wis., Haliburton was a Brewers fan growing up, though he always held less interest in baseball than basketball or football. Haliburton said the Brewers offered him -- at some point prior to the 2024 NBA playoffs -- the opportunity to throw a first pitch at a Milwaukee game. However, the Brewers rescinded the offer, he said, after the Pacers defeated the Bucks in the first round of the 2024 playoffs. At that point, Haliburton put his fandom up for bid and held out hope that someone else would give him a first pitch opportunity.

He caught the eye of the Cubs and the Dodgers in October of 2025 while he was on the sidelines recovering from his Achilles tendon tear in the NBA Finals that June. The Pacers were in the preseason while the Brewers were in the Major League Baseball playoffs and Haliburton wore a Kyle Tucker Cubs jersey to a Pacers game the night the Brewers played the Cubs in Game 5 of the National League Division Series and then a Shohei Ohtani jersey when the Brewers played the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series. The Cubs and Dodgers offered Haliburton the opportunity to throw out a first pitch at a home game when they were playing the Brewers this season. Haliburton said he chose the Cubs because "it just made more sense."
During the first pitch, the Cubs put up a bottom line graphic calling Haliburton "Pacers point guard and Cubs fan."
