Demari Henderson has become a role model in the Sanford community, representing his hometown at the Power Four level for the UCF Knights .
"You know, people don't make it this far," Henderson told reporters at UCF's local media day . "Like knowing that I'm local and I'm here playing college football, it just is this big blessing."

Henderson has stayed local his entire football career. He played his high school ball at Seminole High School, about a 30-minute drive from UCF's main campus.
The Knights landed a commitment from the No. 1 player on the Orlando Sentinel's Central Florida Super60 list in October 2021. He helped Seminole reach the regional finals in the Florida 8A playoffs before losing to Apopka High School that same season.
Hederson became an immediate contributor in his true freshman season, appearing in 11 games. UCF named him the starter in the 2022 Military Bowl Game against the Duke Blue Devils .
He quickly rose in the depth chart as a sophomore during UCF's inaugural season in the Big 12, starting the final seven games. Henderson put together a career year, recording 45 tackles (29 solo), three interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

Big 12 coaches selected him as one of the defensive backs for the Honorable Mention All-Big 12 team.
An injury suffered in preseason camp forced him to redshirt the 2024 season, but he bounced back stronger than ever. Henderson started all contests last season and finished third on the team with 61 tackles.
Remaining local for his final year at UCF has placed him in a rare category of college football players who stay at one program. UCF has been blessed in this regard with a couple of players: Braeden Marshall and Malachi Lawrence, drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in June .
Four seasons together have built an unbreakable bond, one that has kept them in lockstep as the leaders of UCF's secondary.

"He can look at me, ask me a question; I can ask him a question," Henderson said. "We both be on the same page."
They played a significant role in turning the Knights into a top-3 pass defense in the conference. The defensive back held opposing quarterbacks to 181.3 yards per game and recorded nine interceptions.
Henderson nodded with a smirk after highlighting how the returners and focus on generating turnovers will make the defense scarier.
"We ain't have enough last year," Henderson said. "Imagine with our defense from last year, with the turnovers this year that we're going to get. Scary, I'm telling you."
The Sanford native is aiming to leave a legacy as a hometown hero. Serving as an inspiration for those in his city and an example that players can stay at one school and be successful.
