- UCLA's over/under total has been set for Bob Chesney's first season
What would make year one of Bob Chesney a success? It'll be hard to have a more deflating season than the UCLA Bruins did in 2025, where the team went 3-9, fired their head coach mid-season and saw two coordinators "mutually agree" to part ways from the program.
Chesney and the Bruins have been active in the portal and have added a lot of talent . The influx of talent was much-needed for UCLA to not fall farther behind in the Big Ten Conference but how quickly could Chesney turn the Bruins back into a winning program?
UCLA has yet to have a winning season since joining the Big Ten but this year's team appears to be quite different from what DeShaun Foster had in his two years as UCLA's head coach. The Bruins will also benefit from a slightly easier conference schedule in 2026, after having to face Indiana and Ohio State last season. Life in the Big Ten will never be too easy, as UCLA will face Michigan and Oregon this season.
FanDuel released the over/under for UCLA's win total on Friday, giving the Bruins a mark of 6.5. It's not too hard to squint and see a world where Chesney has a winning record in his first year in Westwood.
The Bruins will have a nonconference schedule of Cal, San Diego State and Nevada. In the Big Ten, UCLA will host Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Illinois and USC while going on the road to play Maryland, Oregon, Minnesota and Michigan.
It certainly won't be easy for UCLA in the Big Ten, but there is a path to seven wins in Chesney's debut season.
