Understandably, UConn head coach Dan Hurley is still coming to grips with the Huskies losing the national championship to Michigan. Their 69-63 loss was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. However, he is weighing on other matters.
For instance, Hurley is commenting on the recent scuffle between his former players Stephon Castle ( San Antonio Spurs ) and Cam Spencer (Memphis Grizzlies) on X, formerly Twitter. If anything, Hurley sees it in a positive light.
"Strength of the Pack," Hurley posted.
Both players had to be separated when going for a loose ball off a free throw during the March 25 game between the Spurs and Grizzlies. In the end, the Spurs defeated the Grizzlies 123-98.
Also, Castle finished with 15 points and nine assists. Furthermore, Spencer only had a single point and seven rebounds.
Spencer is averaging 11.1 points and 5.6 assists per game while also shooting 47.3% from the field. Castle is averaging 16.8 points and 7.4 assists per game and shooting 47.3% from the field as well.
Both Castle and Spencer played under Hurley at UConn during the 2023-2024 season. That year, UConn won 37 games and won its second consecutive national championship.
Hurley has completed his 8th season as the Huskies' head coach. Along the way, he has carried the program back to prominence with his tough-as-nails approach to coaching. Additionally, Hurley has developed a pipeline of talent into the NBA.
In 2024, Hurley was named the Naismith Coach of the Year and the Big Ten Coach of the Year. That same year, he signed a $50 million contract extension .
