An incredible finish for Benfica! The Lisbon club was on the brink of elimination from the Champions League , but a remarkable goal by Anatoliy Trubin changed everything.
It was the 90+8th minute when Benfica earned a wide free kick on the right. Frederik Aursnes stepped up and delivered a perfect ball to goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, who headed it past Thibaut Courtois to rescue his team.
With a 4-2 victory, Benfica leapfrogs Marseille to claim 24th place, the last playoff spot, thanks to a better goal difference than the French side (-2 compared to -3).
The Ukrainian shot-stopper has etched his name into Champions League history with his goal. He becomes only the fifth goalkeeper to score in the competition, following in the footsteps of Hans-Jörg Butt, Vincent Enyeama , Sinan Bolat , and Ivan Provedel .
Before Trubin, you have to go back to January 26, 2000, to find a goalkeeper scoring against Los Merengues. That was Toni Prats for Real Betis in La Liga.
