- UH hoops to play 8 national TV games
The University of Hawaii men's basketball team announced its full schedule on Tuesday, featuring an 11-game nonconference games and eight nationally televised conference games in the program's inaugural season in the Mountain West Conference.
UH will play an exhibition against Hawaii Pacific on Oct. 25, with its regular season tipping off against Seattle on Nov. 2 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The RedHawks have won 20 or more games in three of the past four seasons.
The 60th Outrigger Rainbow Classic, the longest-running tournament in the nation, will feature Bethesda, UT Arlington and Portland in games on Nov. 6 (Bethesda), 8 (UT Arlington) and 9 (Portland).
After the classic, UH will face Washington State at a neutral site on Nov. 18.
Another nonconference foe will be former Big West rival UC Irvine, on Dec. 20 at Bankoh Arena. The Rainbows defeated the Anteaters twice last year – on a buzzer-beater last January in Honolulu and again in March's Big West Championship in Henderson, Nev.
UH will open the MWC season on the road, with games at San Jose State (Jan. 2), UC Davis (Jan. 5) and Nevada (Jan. 8). The Rainbows' first home MWC games will be against Air Force (Jan. 12) and Wyoming (Jan. 16).
The eight nationally televised games will be at Nevada (Jan. 8, FS1), at Grand Canyon (Jan. 20, CW), at UNLV (Jan. 23, FS1), vs. New Mexico (Jan. 26, FS1), at Wyoming (Feb. 13, CW), vs. Nevada (Feb. 20, CW), at New Mexico (Feb. 24, CW) and vs. Grand Canyon (March 3, FS1).
UH boasts 13 newcomers on this year's squad, while guards Tanner Cuff and Isaiah Kerr return from last year's 24-win NCAA Tournament squad. Season tickets are now on sale and may be purchased at etickethawaii.com or at the Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center box office (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
