UNC basketball star freshman Caleb Wilson out for year
The North Carolina Tar Heels were hoping to get back star freshman Caleb Wilson for a deep run in March. But now, the Tar Heels will have to make that run without their best player.
On Friday, just over 24 hours before they are set to take on the Duke Blue Devils , a report from ESPN's Shams Charania states that Wilson broke his thumb in a non-contact drill during Thursday's practice. He has undergone surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 college basketball season.
The news is devastating for the Tar Heels, who had played well while Wilson was injured and hoped to get him back for the NCAA Tournament.
Wilson missed the last five games after suffering an injury in the loss at Miami. It was revealed that he suffered a fractured left hand and was working back to a return. Head coach Hubert Davis revealed that he was progressing on Thursday ahead of practice.
Wilson ends his UNC career averaging 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
