Jones has started two games for the 49ers this season in Purdy’s absence and is 2-0. The first win came against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 when Jones went 26-of-39 for 279 yards and three touchdowns. The second came in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals . The veteran quarterback led the 49ers down the field on a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter.
This is Jones’ first season in San Francisco after he signed a two-year deal with the team in March after spending a not-so-great 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars . Before that, Jones spent his first three years with the Patriots .
But things didn’t go well in New England . After a promising rookie season in 2021, Jones couldn’t build off that year, regressed and struggled to find a groove under center.
In June, ESPN wrote that San Francisco is the perfect place for Jones to revive his career because he could take a similar path that Sam Darnold took. He played well enough with the 49ers that the quarterback earned a full-time opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings last season.

Now the 49ers will look to remain undefeated with Jones under center.
