Michael Pittman Jr. has quietly been a productive fantasy receiver for most of his career without ever getting much credit for it. A move to Pittsburgh drops him into a far less crowded target hierarchy than the one he left behind. The quarterback throwing him the ball may be the best possible fit for his specific skill set. Fantasy managers should look closely at what that pairing could produce in 2026.
I really thought I was more ahead of consensus on Pittman. It seems the market has caught up, and rightfully so.
The track record here is better than his reputation suggests. Since his 2021 breakout, Pittman has finished as a top-26 fantasy receiver every single year with one exception. That exception was his down 2024 season, which was mired by an offensive disaster in Indianapolis and a back injury that nearly landed him on IR. Context matters with that one.

Last season was a net positive based on where he finished, though I want to be honest about the number. His 11.9 fantasy points per game landed him as the WR26, and that finish owes something to an overall down year for the position. Even so, that is roughly what you would expect from the WR38, which happens to be exactly his current ADP.
The situation is what excites me. Pittman goes from competing for targets with Josh Downs, Alec Pierce, and Tyler Warren, in an offense that ran through Jonathan Taylor, to competing with DK Metcalf and essentially nobody else. That is a dramatic consolidation of opportunity.
We also need to adjust our expectations for what a Steelers offense looks like now. Fantasy managers have been conditioned throughout the post-Ben Roethlisberger years to expect a low-volume, run-centric attack. That was the Mike Tomlin way. It is not the Mike McCarthy way, and assuming the old formula still applies would be a mistake.
The most compelling part is the quarterback fit. Pittman should mesh exceptionally well with the 42-year-old version of Aaron Rodgers. Consider the two profiles side by side. Pittman's average depth of target was 8.2 last season, which ranked 82nd in the league. Rodgers' aDOT was 6.1, ranking 37th. He has become a checkdown merchant at this stage of his career.
That tendency is exactly why Kenny Gainwell saw a 15.3% target share. Rodgers is quick to get rid of the football rather than absorb a sack, and those quick, short throws have to go somewhere. A big-bodied possession receiver who wins underneath is the ideal beneficiary.

Let me be clear about the ceiling, because there is not a sky-high one here. Pittman is not going to win you a week with a 30-burger. But he can absolutely PPR scam his way to a WR2 season by piling up receptions, and that kind of weekly floor is genuinely valuable at this cost.
Pittman is my WR36 against a WR38 ADP. He is someone I am very much looking at as a WR4 target.
