The USMNT is still reeling from its heartbreaking exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup . Now that they have time to process the loss, team captain Tim Ream summed it all up when he appeared on the Pat McAfee Show.

"We need to put on performances and win games," he said.
Ream played all 90 minutes in each of the USMNT's four games in the World Cup. He became an effective defender, secured 90% passing accuracy, and recorded 28 clearances. He didn't score any goals.
The USMNT topped Group D and reached the Round of 16 for the fifth consecutive tournament. Ultimately, the Americans lost to Belgium 4-1 in the Round of 16 match. The factors that led to their demise were a lack of energy, defensive lapses, and an inability to match Belgium's veteran experience.
As a result, the Americans haven't overcome the Round of 16 for the fifth consecutive World Cup (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022).

In the future, the Americans will have many different things to work out. Among them will be the ability to add more depth to their roster. A roster that has a solid core of Folrain Balogun, Chris Richards, and Malik Tillman.
Additionally, they are trying to work something out with head coach Mauricio Pochettino . Currently, Pochettino is in talks for an extension, but is also considering coaching European teams.
If he goes the other way, the hunt will be on for a new coach.
The next FIFA World Cup will be held in 2030, with Portugal, Morocco, and Spain serving as co-hosts.
The USMNT has never won a World Cup in its history.
