NaQuari Rogers is trying to make another jump in his football career.
The former Utah Utes running back is entering the transfer portal as a fifth-year player. Rogers is the latest to take a step back after benefiting from a court ruling. His football career has been less than conventional. He made his way to Utah after starting his career at a Football Championship Subdivision program before entering the 2026 NFL Draft.
Rogers went undrafted and is seeking another chance to prove he's ready for the next level. He joined Utah ahead of the 2025 season and was a solid option out of the backfield with Wayshawn Parker. In total, Rogers had 1,879 scrimmage yards and 23 total touchdowns across 40 games.
"The University of Utah has been like a second family and a place where I truly got to chase my dream at the highest level of college football," Rogers said in a statement after declaring for the draft.
Rogers led the team with 11 rushing touchdowns last year. There were rumors he would be interested in rejoining the Utes this season, but this would mean splitting carries with Parker for another season. While it is possible, both players are looking to grab the spotlight ahead of a major year in their respective careers. Rogers is getting a second chance to be in the NFL, while Parker is going to be under consideration for the first time. If he were to come back to Salt Lake City, the Utes would get an immediate boost in the backfield. Not to mention, Rogers, playing the role of power back last year, was very effective.
This comes after a Dallas judge issued a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, SEC, and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, allowing two dozen players, including Rogers, a fifth year of eligibility.
According to On3 , Rogers joins the other players named in the TRO: Corey Washington , Hali Hartman, Amadd Moses, Avry Tatum, Brandon Walker, Christeen Iwuala, Christopher "CJ" Gunn, Corey Sidloski, Dmon Brinson, Ethan Sanchez, Jacob Krieg, Jayden Brewer, Phillip Dunnam, Rylan Griffen, Solo Barnes, Stephon "Boogie" Johnson, Treylin Payne, Tyrence Crutcher, Madelyn Muhr, Marcell McCreary, Nikolas Graves, Omari Evans, Owen McElfatrick, Trey Lewis, Max Weinrich, Raphael Kistmann, Rich Smith, Micah Gray, Ryan Ford, Bailey Maupin, Wesley Bissainthe, Justus Simmons, Todd Hudson, Rashod Dubinion, Jaden Mosley, and Jacob Holmes.
The 37 players are trying to secure spots with new teams. With the amount of lawsuits nationwide, the NCAA is fighting on nearly a daily basis to block fifth-year players from returning. But the college oversight body may not have a choice, as courts are mostly siding with the players.
