After not seeing any action last season, a long-time NFL quarterback will officially be stepping away from the sport.
On Thursday, Taylor Heinicke announced his retirement after being cut by the Chargers in the preseason, having lost the battle for the backup role.

"For 25 years, I have had the pleasure to play this great sport of football...it taught me a lot, not only about myself, but about life as well," Heinicke said. "Many ups and downs throughout the years, but the ups outweigh the downs tenfold. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would've been able to live this life."
"Thank you to all have supported me in this journey. Thank you all who have believed in me. And thank you to those who gave me the opportunity to live out my childhood dream. Excited for this next chapter of my life! And always, Go Skins!"
Heinicke signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent and spent a total of nine seasons on a roster. His longest stint was with Washington from 2020 to 2022, where he started 24 games and finished with a record of 12-11-1. Overall, he passed 6,663 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions in his career.
