- Vikings given cornerback help in 2026 NFL Draft redo
The idea of doing a re-draft of a draft within the last year or even two seems a bit shortsighted, but it is an interesting practice nonetheless. With the 2026 NFL Draft having concluded just three short months ago, for one Sports Illustrated writer, it is not too early to completely redo the first round.
Justin Melo of SI went back and re-drafted the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and instead of the Minnesota Vikings selecting defensive tackle Caleb Banks out of Florida, he had them selecting San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson.
The Minnesota Vikings are counting on Caleb Banks to reach his potential. Health and consistency issues occasionally held him back at Florida, but Banks has rare upside at 6-6, 327. Alternatively, the Vikings would benefit from a starting-caliber cornerback and Chris Johnson was a first-round talent at the position.
Johnson is who I was pounding the table for at pick 18, but the Banks pick is certainly interesting, pending the former Gator can stay healthy. The duo of Banks and Domonique Orange, should they reach their potential, could be a dominant duo up the middle for this defensive line.
