The Minnesota Vikings were able to stay undefeated as they came out on top over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 16-10 , which now has the Vikings at 6-0 and the only undefeated team in the NFL.
While the Vikings did come out victorious, there was some concern at the running back position as Aaron Jones Sr. exited the game in the fourth quarter following a 17-yard run with a knee injury, but based on the latest update, it sounds like he did avoid a serious injury.
According to senior ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter , the injury Jones suffered is not considered to be significant at this time, and a source described it as day-to-day.
This is great news for Jones and the Vikings, as Jones is a key part of their offense, and with the offense as a whole showing some promise, they could be heading in the right direction with some good plays in the second half.
In the second half, Jones had the 17-yard run he was injured on and quarterback Kyler Murray had 35-yard run that set up the touchdown which shows that this offense does have the ability to create explosive plays, they just need to do it more consistently.
Getting back to Jones being day-to-day, the Vikings did get some much needed depth at running back on Sunday with fellow running back Jordan Mason returning to the lineup for the first time since Week 1, which was huge and gave the Vikings an opportunity to split carries between two solid backs.
On Sunday, Mason led the way as he had 15 carries for 68 yards and averaged 4.5 yards per carry and the Jones added eight carries for 26 yards while averaging 3.3 yards per carry. Additionally, Murray added five carries for 39 yards (35 yards came on his run that set up the touchdown) and averaged 7.8 yards per carry.
With that said, it does seem like the Vikings have an opportunity to find something they can lean on in the form of the rushing attack as they totaled 136 yards on Sunday and averaged 4.7 yards per carry.
Throughout the season thus far, the offense has struggled so finding something they can lean on like the ground game could be huge to help this offense become a lot more consistent with players like Jones, Mason, and Murray leading the way.
So, as long as Jones can stay healthy and if the Vikings do continue to place an emphasis on the rushing attack, it is possible that they could use the run game to set up the pass game and become a more efficient and successful offense, to complement the strong defense as well as the consistent special teams, which would be huge to help them to potentially make a run at an NFC North title.
