Every World Cup brings its own unexpected stars, and this tournament has found one in a German fan known simply as Freddy, who is documenting his travels across the U.S.
The supporter, known online as @FreddyLA7, has gone viral during the 2026 World Cup by posting enthusiastic updates from his travels across the United States while following Germany. He has kept his face, and the faces of his two travel companions, hidden in photos.
His anonymity has only added to the intrigue. In just 10 days, Freddy's following shot up toward 700,000, with fans tuning in to watch him discover American food, sports culture and the quirks of the open road.

According to Front Office Sports , Freddy has been contacted by Trump administration official Nick Adams, who is reportedly arranging a visit to the White House.
Adams told FOS how he reached out: "I saw all his posts, and so I took it upon myself to reach out," Adams told FOS.
He went on to describe the invitation: "I said, 'Hey, Freddy, I'm the tourism guy in America. I love what you're saying and what you're doing … Do you want to come to Washington? I'd be happy to take you for a tour of the State Department and the White House.'"
Adams' role in the State Department is focused on promoting American tourism and values abroad, and Freddy has become an unexpected, ideal ambassador.
Freddy's travels have already opened doors most fans could only dream of. He has toured facilities with the New Orleans Saints, Pelicans and LSU, visited NASA, and received hospitality from former Texans star JJ Watt in Houston.
Even everyday American staples like Taco Bell, Waffle House, Buc-ee's and Walmart have become highlights, with Freddy sharing his discoveries in a way that has resonated with followers back home.
He has also struck up a connection with country singer Ella Langley, whose music he championed before later attending her concert in Oklahoma City.
The prospect of a White House visit adds a new twist, though it is unclear whether it would involve President Donald Trump. Adams noted that Trump "may be there, he may not be there."
For now, Freddy's identity remains a mystery. But his face-covered journey has become one of the World Cup's most unlikely and endearing stories.
