Brandon Jennings has a unique relationship with Milwaukee Bucks fans.

He's something of a cult figure, thanks to his 55-point scoring outburst as a rookie in 2009, and then coining the phrase "Bucks in six" that took on a life of its own when Milwaukee won the NBA title in 2021 . The 36-year-old Jennings played in 305 games with the Bucks over two stints but has parlayed that connection into frequent appearances at games and team events.

"This is the city where I had my first year as a team where I was drafted to," Jennings told the Journal Sentinel. "So that's always going to be your first family when you come into the NBA, the first team that drafted you."

That bond with Bucks supporters gets a different spin Aug. 15 and 16 when Jennings will compete in the Pro Am Division of the Hoop It Up three-on-three competition in the Deer District outside Fiserv Forum.

"I expect the competition to be very good," Jennings said. "I expect guys to go at me, try to iso me, try to get a bucket on me and stuff like that.

"I'm expecting guys to go right at me. So I'm ready."

Brandon Jennings teams up with Tristan Jass and Korie Lucious

Jennings will be playing alongside basketball content creator Tristan Jass , a Racine native, and Korie Lucious, a former Milwaukee Pius star who now is a local coach.

Jennings already has relationships with his new teammates. He met Lucious at a national AAU event when they were teenage stars.

"We just became cool since then," Jennings said.

Jennings got to know Jass while hooping together at R&B star Chris Brown's house in 2020. Jass recently filmed a video in which he took Jennings to a pickup game in Racine.

"That's the last time I played," Jennings said.

So Jennings' game might not be in the shape it was when he was on the all-rookie first team in the 2009-10 season , but he still said yes to this opportunity. His last stint in the NBA came in 2018 when he played 14 games with Bucks.

"I was a little nervous at first just because I haven't touched the ball in a minute," he said. "But I've been getting my steps in on the golf course, walking my 5 miles a day."

Jennings is always game for getting back to Milwaukee.

"I get a chance to see my old friends, be around the Bucks, and just be able to explore the city," Jennings said.

The competitive switch will get flipped when the three-on-three games start, and Bucks fans who go up against Jennings won't see the fun-loving guard they remember.

"When I'm between the lines, all that stuff is out the window," Jennings said. "I'm not going to be out there shaking hands.

"I'm going to be in game mode and ready to knock some heads off."

Giannis Antetokounmpo highlights during Bucks' 2021 championship run, NBA Finals

Five years ago, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA championship in 50 years after he scored 50 points in the clinching Game 6 over the Phoenix Suns.

It capped an incredible playoff run that also saw him return faster than anyone thought from a hyperextended left knee he suffered during the Eastern Conference finals.

He would deliver several masterpieces throughout the playoffs and iconic NBA Finals moments.
