Even after a thrilling win, frustration continues to build inside the Cincinnati Bengals locker room.
The Bengals secured a dramatic 43-36 overtime victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. However, five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase stole the spotlight with an emotional sideline outburst and a pointed postgame response directed at head coach Zac Taylor.
Cincinnati fell behind 13-0 early, continuing its slow-starting trend after falling behind by double digits in three of its last four games. Chase's frustration boiled over late in the third quarter when an underthrown pass following his double move was intercepted by Tennessee's Amani Hooker.
Chase was visibly upset, slamming his helmet onto the turf after returning to the sideline. Later in the fourth quarter, cameras showed Chase sitting apart from much of the team at the end of the bench, away from his coaches and teammates.
Despite the emotional moment, Chase had an impressive afternoon. He finished with 11 catches on 16 targets for 141 yards and a touchdown, recording his first 100-yard receiving game of the 2026 season. He currently ranks fourth among wide receivers with an 87.7PFN WR Impact Grade.
However, his response to a question about how the Bengals could avoid slow starts raised even more eyebrows. "I don't know, ask Zac. It's not my job, ask Zac,"Chase told reporters.
His comments quickly sparked discussions on social media, with fans wondering whether the exchange pointed to growing tension between Chase and Taylor.
One fan wrote, "He's wanted Zac fired for years, I swear on it. But it's sort of (a) mute pov from him since Burrow doesn't. And QB > WR in political power inside a locker room."
Nati Sports shared a similar sentiment, saying, "I think it's clear Ja'Marr Chase is getting frustrated again with the play calling. Very clearly."
Another fanwarned, "It's all good because we're winning. But if [explicit] starts going south, this is gonna be something to watch."
Another welcomed Chase's willingness to speak up,writing, "Man, we need a player like this haha. Call the [explicit] coaches out. And this is after a win."
Zac Taylor Responds to Chase's Outburst
Rather than criticizing his star receiver for the emotional display, Taylor appeared to embrace Chase's competitive nature and willingness to express his frustration.
"I trust him to do his job through all circumstances,"Taylor said."He can be mad at me, he can be mad at whoever… I kind of like it, to be honest with you. It's kind of just something different to deal with. I like the competitiveness from our guys. They can be mad at me. I'm good with all of it. We'll always work through that. Find a way to go win a game, move on. I'm glad we have him."

The Bengals are now 5-2 and sit second in the competitive AFC North. However, their recurring slow starts remain a concern, particularly against stronger opponents.
Cincinnati will look to improve its first-half execution when it faces the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9.
