ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel would say on “Clutch Scoops” with Tomer Azarly that while Kerr wants Green back, in the hope of all retiring together at some point with Stephen Curry , the chance of him returning is “50/50.”

“That has been part of the conversations that they’ve been having with Steve Kerr, because Kerr, he wants Draymond there. He wants Draymond, Steph, and him, the trio that we’re supposed to go out together, right off into the sunset…that’s always been the plan since their last championship run in 2022…Well, times and plans change, and so does the roster,” Siegel said.

“So Draymond’s future is still very much 50/50. Based on his comments over the last few weeks, it really does seem like that he may have one foot out the door just from his mentality,” Siegel continued. “There’s just certain words and verbiage that he’s used that have hinted at his departure, even though he keeps saying that he wants to stay with the team.”

Warriors’ Draymond Green and his player option are vital

While the talk around the Warriors and Green will continue, the next important step is the veteran’s player option and whether he opts in to it at close to $28 million or declines it. Declining it would allow Golden State to restructure Green on a cheaper deal for his value and age at 36 years old.

“Does he want to be back first of all? Because if he does, he’s going to have to decline that option and restructure his deal. The Warriors at $29 million, if he opts in, that’s going to be used, kind of as an inflated trade exception,” Siegel said.

At any rate, it remains to be seen what Green decides on his player option and what the Warriors do after.
