The Golden State Warriors seem to have cooled off in their pursuit of former Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James in free agency this summer. The development comes as the Warriors desperately try to surround point guard Stephen Curry with a competitive team to finish out the twilight years of his illustrious career.
Recently, ClutchPoints' NBA insider Brett Siegel poured cold water on any notion that Curry might be considering leaving the Bay Area before he hangs up his sneakers.
" Stephen Curry is not going anywhere. All those saying he needs to go somewhere to a team that wants to contend for a championship… [The Warriors] are a team that's committed to winning with Steph… If they miss out on LeBron James , they're gonna try to have some other plans in place to get some other players," said Siegel, per Clutch Scoops.

At this point, it remains unclear what those "other plans" might be, considering the market is not exactly robust with options at the current moment, and most of the biggest names on the trade market ( Kawhi Leonard , Giannis Antetokounmpo , Jaylen Brown ) have already been dealt. The Warriors did bring back Kristaps Porzingis this summer, and, in theory, if he, Curry, Jimmy Butler , and Draymond Green were all healthy next season, Golden State could try to make a run.
However, the game of basketball is not played in theory, but rather on the hardwood, and at this point, it's hard to envision a scenario where all of those players remain healthy over the course of an 82-game season and ensuing postseason run.
In any case, the Warriors' schedule for the 2026-27 season is slated to be released at some point next month.
