- Washington Commanders Sign Top Free Agent Cornerback to Prove-It Deal
The Washington Commanders failed last season due to many reasons. Injuries undoubtedly played a major factor as the team flipped their record from 12-5 in 2024 to 5-12 in 2025. Franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels was limited to just seven games due to various injuries, but he wasn't alone.
As a whole, the Commanders regressed on offense and defense. Their fifth-ranked scoring attack from 2024 slipped to 22nd in 2025. Defensively, the Commanders went from 18th in 2024 in Dan Quinn's first season as Washington's head coach to 27th in 2025. That type of performance won't be accepted in DC in 2026, but now the Commanders have made an upgrade.

On Monday, ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Commanders are signing free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas. He's planning to sign a one-year contract worth up to $3.8 million.
The 6-foot-2, 209-pound corner won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles as a rookie in 2017. He arrived as the 99th overall pick in the third round, starting five of 14 appearances in his debut season, recording two interceptions in the process.
Douglas stuck around for three seasons in Philadelphia before making stints with the Panthers , Packers , Bills, and most recently, the Dolphins. The 30-year-old has started 93 of 135 appearances in his nine-year career, compiling 21 interceptions in the process.

Despite being unsigned for so long, Douglas drew high remarks from Pro Football Focus , grading as the 21st-best cornerback in 2025, with his coverage grade ranking 24th among 114 corners who qualified with enough snaps played. If Douglas can maintain that play in Washington, he might be able to land a second contract with the Commanders. For now, he'll have to fight to make sure he secures a spot on the team's 53-man roster.
