As the Washington Huskies coaching staff utilized its bye week to do some recruiting, offensive line coach Michael Switzer extended an offer to rising 2028 offensive tackle James Bennett.
The 6-foot-7, 300-pound product of Mead High School in Longmont, Colorado, has yet to be ranked by either On3 or 247Sports, but is quickly turning into a very popular target for Power Four programs. He holds 13 offers, with Minnesota, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Texas Tech all among the interested parties.
Bennett has also taken unofficial visits to see the Cornhuskers, Red Raiders , and Northwestern in recent weeks, and is also slated to make a trip to USC on Halloween.
On film, Bennett is a mauling, physical force who lines up mainly at right tackle and is effective at clearing the way as a run blocker, never stopping his feet, while his natural power easily paves the way for ball carriers behind him.
He's athletic enough to pull into space and act as a lead blocker on off-tackle runs, is adept at climbing to the second level to seal off holes, and anchors well in pass protection, all traits the Huskies are looking for as Switzer continues to build an offensive line that can handle the physicality of the Big Ten.
As the coaching staff continues to evaluate the 2028 class, the top of Washington's board along the offensive line appears to consist of five-stars Antijuan Wilkes and Maui Tonata, along with four-star Josiah Eney, and Bennett could see a steep rise in the coming months.
