Washington Huskies Reserve Big-Man Re-Signs For 2026-27 Season

Lathan Sommerville was the first transfer commitment in April for coach Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies .

Once again, just over one year later, the Huskies’ junior center became the first player from the 2025-26 roster to formally re-sign for next season, according to his agency, Endurance Management.

The 6-foot-10 transfer from Rutgers University made seven starts and 22 total appearances while dealing with a knee injury in his first season at UW as a backup behind sixth-year senior starter Franck Kepnang, who recently announced his transfer out of the program.

Sommerville, a Peoria, Illinois native, is one of three returning frontcourt pieces for Sprinkle going into his third season on Montlake, along with sophomore Nikola Dzepina and senior center/forward Mady Traore, who combined for 36 games and 7 starts last year.

Although Sommerville made only seven starts in his first season with the Huskies, the sophomore shot 43.8 percent from the floor—fifth-best on the team—and finished seventh on the team, averaging 2.6 rebounds per game, which should increase as he takes a more expanded role in 2026-27.

Sprinkle is still expected to add at least one or two post transfers to add with the ex- Scarlet Knights reserve, though only two players have formally announced their move to UW since the portal opened, former Davidson guard Parker Friedrichsen and ex-Gonzaga guard/wing Steele Venters.

With the pair of transfers and the expected return of junior guard Wesley Yates III to go along with the trio of front-court returners, the Huskies still have eight scholarship spots available to fill to reach the NCAA maximum of 15 for next season.
