Washington Huskies DL Deshawn Lynch is a hidden gem for an NFL team

Although he didn't get an invitation to the NFL combine, former Washington Huskies defensive lineman Deshawn Lynch got an opportunity to show off why he deserves an opportunity to compete for a spot at the next level in front of scouts from 29 NFL teams.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound prospect, who spent two seasons at Washington after transferring from Sacramento State, showed off his explosive athleticism with an unofficial 40-yard dash time that was unofficially clocked in the 4.7-second range, along with a 30-inch vertical jump and 8-foot-11 broad jump.

"I feel like my name had to get talked about a little more, so I felt like I had a point to prove today and I feel like I proved it," Lynch said after his workout.

That athleticism was on display throughout the season, as he put together an impressive senior season on Montlake. Lynch posted 19 tackles, 3.5 for loss, with a sack, an interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and 7 passes batted down, which led the nation for defensive linemen.

While he probably won't wind up hearing his name called during the NFL draft, he could be a hidden gem for a team as an undrafted free agent because of his high-end athleticism.

"An athletic freak," Lynch said when asked what an NFL team would be getting if he wound up on their roster. "Moving how I move at my size, you could do a lot with me. You don't have to just put me in one spot; you can put me all over. Whatever you want to do, you have the chance to do it if you pick me up."

No matter where that may be, Lynch has kept his same mentality throughout the process; he's put his head down and continued to work.

"All you can do is just keep your head on straight and just grind, that's the biggest thing out of this whole process," he added.
