Oct. 31—WSU QB Owen Eshelman
The Cougars' redshirt freshman signal-caller made a couple of glaring mistakes — an errant pass that was picked off in the second quarter and an intentional grounding when WSU was in scoring position in the third — but was otherwise poised and continued to show progress in his third start. In the end, he fell just a few plays short of leading a fourth-quarter comeback. Eshelman rushed for two touchdowns and completed 30 of 42 passes for a career-high 299 yards.
SDSU RB Javion Kinnard
The sophomore transfer exhibited elusiveness and some power despite his 5-8, 175-pound frame. He kept his legs moving to pick up extra yards and shed Cougar tacklers, averaging 5.1 yards on 17 carries. Kinnard scored the game's first TD, a 9-yard burst, and put the Aztecs up 14-7 early in the second quarter with a 10-yard scoring run on third down. He finished with 87 yards, complementing starting back Lucky Sutton, who tallied 118 yards on 18 carries.
