The Washington Wizards ' mascot is preparing to sue Los Angeles Lakers forward Jaxson Hayes after being shoved during pregame introductions.
The altercation took place on January 30 when Hayes pushed G-Wiz on the court before tip-off. The matter has now moved beyond NBA discipline and into potential civil proceedings.
Nearly two weeks later, the individual behind the costume has secured legal representation and is considering formal action.

G-Wiz has retained attorney Waukeen McCoy in response to the confrontation. McCoy previously battled Hayes' legal representatives in a previous case.
McCoy confirmed he is representing the mascot and indicated that legal action is expected, although he remains open to an amicable resolution.
He also suggested that additional parties could become involved as the case develops.
Addressing the extent of the injuries, McCoy stated that the mascot was injured but declined to elaborate further. The development has intensified scrutiny surrounding Hayes.
The NBA suspended Hayes for one game following the shove, a penalty he served when the Lakers faced the Philadelphia 76ers . No additional league discipline has been announced.
Hayes later apologised publicly to both his teammates and G-Wiz. He stated that the incident occurred after the mascot accidentally stepped on his foot during introductions.
McCoy criticised the NBA's decision, describing the punishment as insufficient and questioning the league's consistency in disciplinary matters. His remarks have further elevated the profile of the dispute.
With a lawsuit now being prepared, what began as a pregame scuffle could develop into a significant legal battle. Further details are expected as proceedings move forward.
