The Bluefield State Big Blue (0-1) look for a third straight win in the Battle of the Blue Ridge rivalry when they visit the Concord Mountain Lions (1-0) on Saturday afternoon in a Division II matchup of West Virginia programs.

Concord comes off a season-opening win at FCS Davidson on Aug. 27, taking a 41-35 victory. The Mountain Lions took the lead for good on Stanley Horn Jr.'s 33-yard pick-six on Davidson's first possession of the second half. Dom Collins caught three passes for 75 yards and a touchdown and also scored on a 68-yard run while Greg Burrell finished with 87 yards and a score on 11 carries. Devin Kargman went 17-of-34 for 225 yards and a TD as well.
Bluefield State gave up 35 second-quarter points and never recovered in a 42-7 loss at Tusculum on Aug. 27. Brandon Wiley's one-yard touchdown run with three seconds remaining helped the Big Blue avoid a shutout and he also caught five passes for 59 yards as the offense was held to just 196 total on the night. Derek Binder gained 58 yards on five carries.
The Big Blue is 2-0 against the Mountain Lions since the rivalry resumed in 2024, claiming a 38-31 win at home last September. The school revived its program in 2021 after football was dropped in 1980.
