The San Francisco 49ers have a long list of injuries on the roster. As a result, veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks was one of Brock Purdy's targets in the end zone, as he hauled in a touchdown in the Week 5 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The 33-year-old made an impressive diving play to help give the 49ers a 29-26 lead early in the fourth quarter (the score has since changed to 32-29 in favor of the 49ers for a big Week 5 win over the Seahawks). After dancing around the pocket, Purdy put the ball only where Cooks could catch it for six points.
The 49ers initially signed the 13-year veteran to the practice squad shortly after the 35-13 Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins. Cooks was signed to the active roster on October 1 and made his debut with the team in the 24-14 Week 4 win over the Denver Broncos. However, he did not record a single stat in that contest. After securing a touchdown with the 49ers, Cooks may have a chance to earn more looks from Purdy. But that is yet to be determined.
This is the seventh organization Cooks has played for in his career. He appeared in 15 games last season (10 with the New Orleans Saints and five with the Buffalo Bills). In 175 career games in the NFL, Cooks has accumulated 735 receptions, 9,818 yards, and 61 touchdowns (including Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks).
The 49ers advance to a 5-0 record on the season after their big win over the Seahawks. San Francisco will move on to Week 6 for a home matchup against the Washington Commanders. That contest will be a primetime "Monday Night Football" game on October 19.
