Shohei Ohtani delivered another electric moment Tuesday night, even as the Los Angeles Dodgers fell 2–1 to the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. The Dodgers' superstar kept his team within reach behind a strong outing, but one strikeout against Jose Altuve quickly became the lasting image of the matchup.
Ohtani controlled much of the game with sharp command and overpowering stuff. The right-hander worked seven innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out eight, giving Los Angeles a chance despite limited offensive support.
The two-way superstar also generated several swings and misses with his fastball-slider combination, consistently disrupting the Astros hitters' timing and limiting hard contact throughout the night. Despite the loss, the outing further reinforced why the Dodgers continue to trust him in marquee matchups against elite American League opponents.
The most memorable sequence came during an at-bat against Altuve. Known for his contact skills and plate discipline, the Astros veteran rarely looks uncomfortable. However, Ohtani forced a rare reaction with a pitch that sent Altuve chasing well outside the zone.
Jomboy Media shared the clip on X, formerly Twitter, capturing the moment Ohtani completely fooled the Astros captain.
" Shohei Ohtani had Jose Altuve CHASING."
The video showed Altuve lunging and dropping to a knee as he swung through the pitch, an unusual sight for one of baseball's most consistent hitters. The moment quickly gained attention because of both the pitch quality and the hitter involved.
Although the Dodgers did not come away with the win, Ohtani's performance reinforced how dominant he remains on the mound. His ability to miss bats, control counts, and challenge accomplished hitters continues to give Los Angeles stability every time he starts.
As the series moves toward its finale, Los Angeles will look to provide Tyler Glasnow with stronger offensive support in Wednesday's rubber match. Still, Ohtani's strikeout of Altuve was one of the most memorable moments from a tense night in Houston.
