With the Cleveland Guardians led by star Jose Ramirez , the team is looking to build up young players to follow in his footsteps, though that is no doubt a high bar to reach. As the Guardians look for their next breakout star, Juan Brito would make quick work in his first major league at-bat on Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals .

In the bottom of the second inning with two outs on a 2-1 count, Brito swung at a fastball high and up that drove to left field, enough for him to get to second base on a double. Brito was called up to play for Cleveland on Tuesday to replace shortstop Gabriel Arias , who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained hamstring.

“Juan Brito hits a double in his first MLB at-bat for the Guardians. Brito was promoted to the big leagues today to replace injured shortstop Gabriel Arias. Welcome to the show, Brito,” ClutchPoints’ Joey Mistretta wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Guardians’ Stephen Vogt expresses excitement for Juan Brito

Brito would be called up from Triple-A ball and batted sixth in the order, playing second base for the Guardians in the game against the Royals. Before the game, manager Stephen Vogt expressed his excitement about Brito.

“We’ve been excited about Juan for a really long time. And I feel like last year with his injuries, we would have seen him last year at some point, but we just couldn’t be more excited,” Vogt said, according to ESPN. “Juan has historically been a good decision maker at the plate. He’s got the ability to make contact, and he’s got the power to drive the ball out of the yard. So he’s a complete hitter from both sides.”

At any rate, Brito will look to continue to make his presence felt with the hope of contributing to Cleveland.
